As he was fining the 3 of us, the guy said on the radio "saved me 3 slots"... So I hope he at least gained the competition with his friends.

Terrible experience thanks to the police. We had a glass of wine in front of our house - we didn't know it was not allowed as Europeans - and instead of telling us the rule nicely, we would have listened, the police officer fined us, which I understand, but the guy made sure we also missed the ferry. It took him about 30 mins to write the ticket even though we told him we were in a rush. Almost missed our international flight thanks to this nice man. I understand that it's important to make sure rules are respected but that should not keep you from being nice and welcoming. #430
